01About the training
There are moments in sandtray when clients create something that captures an experience, emotion, relationship, or story more fully than words ever could.
Sandtray offers opportunities for symbolic expression, creativity, meaning-making, and therapeutic exploration through play.
This two-day experiential training is designed to provide a strong foundation for incorporating sandtray into play therapy practice. Participants will explore the historical roots, theoretical foundations, and clinical applications of sandtray while developing a deeper understanding of therapist presence, symbolic expression, developmental considerations, trauma-informed practice, cultural responsiveness, ethical decision-making, and documentation considerations.
Whether you are just beginning your sandtray journey or seeking a stronger clinical foundation, this training offers a thoughtful introduction to one of the most powerful forms of therapeutic expression available within play therapy.
02Why sandtray?
Children often communicate through play long before they can fully express themselves through language.
Sandtray creates opportunities for clients to externalize experiences, represent relationships, explore emotions, and create meaning through symbolic expression.
Within the safety of the therapeutic relationship, the sandtray becomes a space for creativity, curiosity, self-expression, and exploration. Through the use of miniatures, symbols, and sensory engagement, clients can communicate aspects of their internal world in ways that are often difficult to access through conversation alone.
For therapists, sandtray offers a developmentally responsive modality that can support clinical work with children, adolescents, adults, families, and groups across a wide range of presenting concerns.

04How you’ll learn
Talk through theory, symbolism, and real clinical questions with colleagues.
See sandtray approaches modeled so you know what they look like in the room.
Engage with the sandtray process hands-on, not just in theory.
Translate each concept into interventions you can confidently use with clients.
