until we gather by the ocean

When we hold the EMDR 8-phase protocol with fidelity and allow room for client-defined spirituality, adaptive meaning can surface and integrate.

  • You already know the EMDR protocol.
  • You understand the eight phases.
  • You use the AIP model.
  • You care about doing it right.

But sometimes in session, something deeper shows up.

A client begins to question who they are.

A belief about self starts to shift.

A theme about meaning or faith emerges in their own words.

You want to handle those moments well.

Without drifting. Without imposing anything. Without stepping outside the model.

This training shows you how.

Structure or depth?

Many EMDR clinicians feel a quiet tension when a clientโ€™s spirituality emerges organically and they are not sure how to respond while staying fully within the model.

It can feel like you must choose between structure and depth.

You do not.

This two-day training will teach you how to invite depth while staying grounded in the EMDR Standard Protocol.

You will strengthen your ability to recognize and support the emergence of adaptive meaning throughout all 8 phases of EMDR therapy.

  • You will clarify the flow between Phase 1 and Phase 2 so target selection becomes cleaner and more grounded.
  • You will identify negative cognitions directly from client language and organize targets across past, present, and future.
  • You will strengthen your ability to notice adaptive information in real time and support it without leading the client.

Fidelity across all eight phases

We focus deeply on Phases 1 and 2 because when history-taking and preparation are strong, everything downstream becomes clearer. Then we carry that clarity through Phases 3 through 8 with greater confidence and precision. Tap a phase to explore.

Listen for it: a taste of Day 1

Example: Grief and Spiritual Connection

On Day 1 youโ€™ll practice extracting negative cognitions straight from a clientโ€™s narrative, organizing targets across past, present, and future, noticing adaptive information as it shows up, and making room for the clientโ€™s own connections, symbols, and meaning. Try it here. Tap each highlighted phrase, then choose what a trained ear hears in it.

MA clientโ€™s first session, in their own words

โ€œMy mom died when I was twenty-three. Now every time I have good news, I still want to call her, and then it hits me: Iโ€™m alone. Iโ€™m afraid Iโ€™ll forget her. My mom always believed in me. She taught me to find beauty in small things, and some days I can still hear her laugh. Whenever a dragonfly appears, I think of her. I feel connected to her when Iโ€™m in the garden. I often wonder if these moments are reminders that love doesnโ€™t disappear. Maybe my relationship with her changed, but it didnโ€™t end.โ€

Restore the clinician behind the work

This training is also an opportunity to restore the clinician behind the work.

Through intentional experiences in nature and connection with the elements, you will strengthen your own nervous system's capacity for regulation, presence, and flexibility. As your capacity expands, so does your ability to remain grounded during complex clinical work, co-regulate with clients, and stay connected to adaptive information as it emerges.

There will be guided opportunities to connect with the elements through the senses in simple, structured ways that support

within the EMDR model.

Many clinicians leave with stronger clinical skills and a renewed sense of steadiness, clarity, and connection to the work they love.

Fully inside the model

There is no new model here.

No deviation from protocol.

No imposed spiritual framework.

Spirituality in this training refers to client-defined beliefs, values, culture, or sources of meaning. It does not imply any specific religion or belief system.

Right on the beach

This experience takes place in beautiful Melbourne Beach, Florida, at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Melbourne Beach Oceanfront, right on the beach.

The space includes both indoor meeting areas and an oceanfront deck, with easy access to the sand.

We will use the natural environment to support grounding, regulation, and presence.

EMDR-EXP-D1 - EMDR Expansions Day 1: Phases 1 and 2

In-Person Only

Description:

Day 1 focuses on Phases 1 and 2 of EMDR therapy, with an emphasis on strengthening fidelity to the Adaptive Information Processing model while deepening clinical precision. Participants will review core AIP principles and the structure of the eight-phase protocol, then explore the fluid relationship between history-taking and preparation. Instruction will include identifying negative cognitions directly from client narratives, organizing targets across the three prongs of EMDR therapy, and strengthening adaptive information during preparation. Through lecture, demonstration, and structured partner practice, participants will refine case conceptualization skills and build a clear bridge from Phase 1 and 2 into effective reprocessing work.

Learning Objective:

  • Describe the foundational principles of AIP and EMDR therapy and explain how to maintain fidelity across all 8 phases while integrating deeper personal and spiritual dimensions that support the clientโ€™s healing journey.
  • Explain the nuanced relationship between Phases 1 and 2 of EMDR therapy, while utilizing dual attention stimuli to organically highlight adaptive information throughout the client history-taking process.
  • Demonstrate use of questioning prompts to access trauma themes across the lifespan, to extract negative cognitions from the narrative and identify potential targets across 3 prongs of EMDR therapy past, present, and future.
  • Discuss questioning techniques to access clientโ€™s resiliency across the lifespan, identify adaptive memory networks, including coping skills, important relationships, and meaningful life experiences across 3 prongs of EMDR therapy past, present, and future.
  • Demonstrate effective therapeutic relationship-building in the Preparation phase by integrating mindfulness and grounding techniques that help clients access their inner wisdom, strength, and sense of purpose.
  • Explain the structure of the Assessment phase and guide clients in exploring the deeper meanings or spiritual themes behind their negative cognitions, honoring the full story of their life experience.

EMDR-EXP-D2 - EMDR Expansions Day 2: Phases 3โ€“8

In-Person Only

Speaker:

Suna ClinchardLMFT, PMH-C
Jacqueline FlynnEdS, LMHC-S, RPT-Sโ„ข, RST- C/T

Description:

Day 2 focuses on Phases 3 through 8 of EMDR therapy, emphasizing precise application of the eight-phase protocol within the Adaptive Information Processing model. Participants will review assessment, desensitization, installation, body scan, closure, and re-evaluation, with attention to maintaining fidelity while tracking shifts in affect, cognition, and somatic experience. Instruction includes strengthening adaptive beliefs during installation, identifying residual disturbance during body scan, and ensuring appropriate stabilization in closure. Through lecture, demonstration, and structured partner practice, participants will refine reprocessing skills and support integration across past, present, and future targets.

Learning Objective:

  • Utilize therapistโ€™s instinct, inner wisdom, attunement with clientโ€™s cues and deeper sense of knowing into reprocessing phases of EMDR therapy.
  • Apply bilateral stimulation in the Desensitization phase to help clients release emotional and physiological blocks, while facilitating reprocessing as a doorway to transformation and spiritual awakening.
  • Demonstrate reinforcement of the positive cognition in the Installation phase, helping clients embody their new truth through integration and a connection to their highest self.
  • Analyze somatic indicators during the Body Scan phase as reflections of nervous system activation and spiritual insight, and utilize BLS to clear residual tension and deepen coherence.
  • Assess emotional and energetic balance in the Closure phase, ensuring the client leaves grounded in both psychological safety and spiritual centeredness.
  • Compare the clientโ€™s evolving narrative in the Re-evaluation phase, assess the continuity of growth, and discuss how healing unfolds across time and in daily life.
